Block retaining wall, steps, driveway, and turf
For the Tantitha Project, the customer opted for an 80 m, compacted decomposed granite driveway constructed from the road, across the front yard, and up to their double garage, on the opposite side of the home, surrounded by a treated hardwood timber edge. This was a more economical option compared to paver or concrete considering the length of the driveway, and the colour matched nicely with the retaining wall & paver path.
This project was completed in many stages. The first was the construction of the 33 m block retaining wall, with the inclusion of the four steps, using a Tasman concrete block in Sydney blend. A paver path was constructed from the steps of the retaining wall up to the entrance of their home, and this was constructed using 400 x 400 Euroslate pavers in Rome. Another paved area was created to the front of the house, along with gardens edged with 200 x 400 Euroslate pavers and a feature raised garden bed with a 2-tier block wall. Premium Oze Green turf was laid to the top of the retaining wall and, considering the size of the front yard, below the retaining wall, was seeded.
Sleeper steppers, turf, rock areas, planting, fencing & timber edging
As the Warana PGH Project was for a business shop front, it was important for the customer to create a welcoming, safe & aesthetically appealing environment for their own customers to enjoy as they look through their products. To begin the project, the site had to be cleared and levelled with the Kanga loader and the addition of soil. Beautiful Merbau timber sleepers of various lengths were placed as steppers throughout the landscape. Garden areas were created with the placement of various sized sandstone boulders and plants including Grass trees, Cycads, Kangaroo Paw, Fiji Fire, Lomandra, Dracena Marginata, Dianella & zoysia. The gardens were finished with tumbled sandstone within timber garden edging. Recycled timber palings were placed to the front and back of posts in order to hide them and create the kind of look that the customer was after. Finally, Wintergreen turf was laid to finish the area.
Ekodeck decking
For the Coolum Beach West Project, the customer on this project wanted a large decked area around their new pool where they could entertain friends and family while looking over their pool. They decided to use a composite decking called Ekodeck. It is made of timber, PVC, and bamboo, and is a great product. Not only does it look great, but it is UV resistant. Which means no maintenance. It is slightly more expensive than natural timber, but it ends up costing a lot less in the long run as there are no costs involved to maintain it. I used a decking method using breaker boards which divides the deck into sections, using a decking board running in the opposite direction between each segment, as shown in the photos. The reason for this is so you don't have staggered joins through your deck where decking boards meet. This method looks very neat and tidy.
